Happy Independence Day Peru!

Today is the first of two consecutive days (July 28 and 29) that Peruvians celebrate their independence from Spain in 1821. My family and I had the privilege of living in Peru from 1988 until 2001 and had a front row seat to many national celebrations, in good times and in difficult ones.

Twenty-two years later we still celebrate the country we love and in which we received so much love. Beyond the many friends and co-laborers that we found there, we raised our two daughters there, adopted our son there, and gained another son through marriage to our daughter and as a result have six grandchildren with Peruvian heritage.

This morning on my way to the office I stopped in Wonderstate Coffee and they were offering a pour over from Peru. It was worth the $5.00 in order to celebrate the country and people who have so enriched my life.

Hoy es el primero de dos días consecutivos (28 y 29 de julio) en que los peruanos celebran su independencia de España en 1821. Mi familia y yo tuvimos el privilegio de vivir en Perú desde 1988 hasta 2001 y tuvimos un asiento de primera fila en muchas celebraciones nacionales, en los buenos momentos y en los difíciles.

Veintidós años después seguimos celebrando el país que amamos y en el que recibimos tanto amor. Más allá de los muchos amigos y colaboradores que encontramos allí, criamos a nuestras dos hijas allí, adoptamos a nuestro hijo allí y obtuvimos otro hijo a través del matrimonio con nuestra hija y, como resultado, tenemos seis nietos con herencia peruana.

Esta mañana, de camino a la oficina, me detuve en Wonderstate Coffee y me estaban ofreciendo un “pour over” del Perú. Valió la pena los $5.00 para celebrar el país y las personas que tanto han enriquecido mi vida.

¡Viva el Perú! ¡Que Dios te bendiga a ti y a todos tus ciudadanos!
